about.
Having made a website for last year's Valentines' ask, I felt compelled to "step up my game" a little bit and decided to develop a video game in Unity. I had recently been working with this technology (see my EMT Vision project), and feeling as though I had a decent hold on the engine, I decided to apply these skills to a fun way of asking her.
I had seen a lot of posts regarding asking significant others to be Valentines, but was yet to see a video game. I was slightly inspired by a web page featuring unique animations, pixel art, and sounds, and thus took to Unity.
development process.
I had to obtain quite a strong gasp across several new concepts: tilemaps, 2D sprite animation, four-directional movement, and collision boxes. While I had prior worked in Unity, my background of C# and game development as a whole was quite rusty. I spent the better part of a week applying my Java knowledge to C#, playing with various components within the engine, and fine-tuning the game's UI to be seamless, enjoyable, and fun.

results.
The final game turned out far better than I ever could have expected, complete with a working main menu, NPC dialogue, background music and sound effects, cutscenes, and an explorable island—-all finished in under a week! Not to mention, she absolutely loved the game, and did (thankfully) say yes to be my Valentine :)
